Season Recap

Trying to play catch up with the blog. Here's some info about the events that we've had so far this season!

Nov. 24th - 3rd Annual Manna Rail Jam
For the third year in a row, the Manna Rail Jam gave skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to dust off their gear and get back into the flow of things, before the start of the season. Riders brought either five canned goods or five dollars to donate to the Manna Food Project out of Harbor Springs, Michigan. Once the riding was over a premiere was held for the ski flicks "Sunny" and "The Eighty Six" produced by Level 1 Productions and Stept Productions respectively.

At the end of the day, more than $600 and a overflowing bin of food was raised!

Dec. 31st - Gnar Years Eve Rail Jam
On New Year's Eve we held our second Gnar Years Eve event. Held in the rail yard, skiers and snowboarders threw down some heavy tricks. Probably the sickest thing though, had to be when we had selected the few skiers and snowboarders to advance to the final session. We had snowboarders getting nuts  on the wallride and then skiers doing the same, but on the down-flat bar. Thanks to K2 for presenting the event as well as our additional sponsors.

Jan. 19th - Beat the Local and The HillBilly Traveling Shred Show

Our most recent event, Beat the Local was played out like a game of S.K.A.T.E. but on snow. For a couple nights prior to the event, the park crew worked hard to freshen up the Rail Yard. We completely changed it around to offer everyone some fun and creative features to get shradical on. I'd say my favorite part of the jam was watching the session on the closeout rail that was on top of a little tabletop. I remember that someone had set with a huge ollie to flat and Mike Fink came and answered with a HUGE method to flat. Overall it was a great time in a really chill environment. Kids got a ton of free stuff and got to have a fun times shredding with their friends.

Now, aside from having a bunch of kids throwing around one-footers over closeouts and gap to front lips, we also were graced with the presence of a crew that had been documenting their travels to ski hills throughout the Midwest; the HillBillies. If you haven't heard of these guys go here and learn yourself somethin: www.facebook.com/TheHillBillyTravelingShredShowThese guys were flyin' around the park the whole time. It was almost like a demo, but not a demo, maybe something in between.
